His sort of Jazz is more Fusion, perhaps, but it certainly features electric guitar, and he is not afraid of stomping the distortion pedal, even if it is Jazz. I connected my Rock-universe to this new alien Jazz-universe; he was the perfect coupling for that. I listened to this a lot and I began, for the first time ever, to transcribe what he plays to try to reproduce it on my own guitar and thereby to learn some of his tricks and licks and characteristics. There is certainly a moment or two in the Silverflame solo when I can clearly hear Mike Stern, as I listened to him so much at the time.”
