This is a complete transcription of the trumpet, tenor saxophone, and double bass on Fats Navarro’s blazing recording of “Nostalgia”. For the studious guitarist, I have included a guitar arrangement that I made for myself to practice on. Enjoy!
My research on this song, thus far, finds that this recording was done in New York, in late-1947 (dated either “September” or “December 5”). It was first released in 1952 on the sixth volume of Savoy Records’ EP series, New Trends of Jazz – volumes 5, 6, and 7 all dedicated to Fats Navarro. Sadly, since he died of Tuberculosis in July 1950, he never got to experience the posthumous recognition and popularity of his music in the 1950s, especially after releases like the Fats Navarro Memorial series – the second volume of which was titled Nostalgia (1958).
