song: It Never Entered My Mind
artist: Julie London
album: Julie Is Her Name (1955)
writers: Music by Richard Rodgers / Lyrics by Lorenz Hart (1940)

electric jazz guitar: Barney Kessel

This is a transcription of Barney Kessel’s wonderful solo guitar playing on this recording of the jazz standard, “It Never Entered My Mind”, for Julie London’s 1995 debut record (see video). This arrangement takes its cue from Frank Sinatra’s version, off the Frankly Sentimental album (1949) (see video), which skips the introductory section and then cuts-down the song to the subsequent 3-4 verses. In this version, the great Barney Kessel plays some simple and well-chosen jazz guitar chords. This tune is also a good place to start for beginners of jazz guitar. Enjoy!
