This is a complete transcription of two guitar parts and the bass part on this recording of the beautiful American folk song, “He’s Gone Away”. This arrangement is inspired by the one of the canonical versions, the 1948 recording by Jo Stafford: Its instrumental interlude is what Pat Metheny repurposed as his Intro/Outro section, and the free timing of Jo Stafford’s phrasing is inspiring Pat Metheny’s lead playing.
