This is a transcription of the hit single that lead to the international breakthrough for the Swedish rock band, The Cardigans in 1996-7.
The tune is a catchy pop composition with an interesting set of harmonies, e.g. the jazzy _m9 and _13 chords, and the modulation from the verse key of A minor into the A major parallel of the chorus.
The arrangement and mixing of instruments is very characteristic of the 1990s: Many of the instruments are deliberate caricatures of typical musical roles, e.g. the vocals' 60ies-diva-ballad-intonation, or the drums' 70ies-disco-ecstacy. Also, there are many brief instrumental roles of deliberately overdone musical references, e.g. the synthetic theremin ending the verse, or the unrelenting funk guitar in the chorus. All this adds up to explicitly self-aware music. Hence, this is not a cliché love song; this is an ironic staging of a cliché love song. Enjoy this journey deep into the ironic 1990s!
