This is a note-for-note transcription of Julian Lage’s insane performance of “P.S. Unless One Has (Blues Connotation)”, a tune by Ornette Coleman. (This is possibly the hardest transcription job I ever did.) This product also includes a simple lead sheet of his guitar arrangement. Please, enjoy!

The two names for the tune stem from the fact that Ornette Coleman recorded two takes (on July 19th, 1960) and named them differently: The 5m16s take was first released on the album This Is Our Music (1961) as “Blues Connotation”, while the 5m55s take was released later on the album To Whom Keeps a Record (1975) as “P.S. Unless One Has (Blues Connotation No. 2)”. Julian Lage, being a fan of Ornette Coleman, had occasionally been playing this tune in live shows, until the tune found its spot on the setlist on the Squint tour in 2021, there titled “Blues Connotation”.
