song: In Heaven
artist: Julian Lage
album: Love Hurts (2019)
writer: Music by Peter Ivers (1977)

electric guitar: Julian Lage
double bass: Jorge Roeder
(drums: Dave King)

What a way to open an album! The Julian Lage trio made a brave choice in bringing this tune into a jazz context, and they managed to keep its ghostly soul very much alive. This unnerving composition originally featured in the soundtrack to David Lynch’s breakdown horror film, Eraserhead, sung by the “Lady in the Radiator” (see the clip below), which earned it its obscure subtitle… This jazz rendition features both a brutal but melodic guitar solo by Julian Lage and Jorge Roeder on bowed double bass. Enjoy!
