This is a complete transcription (except drums) of the album version of “Tributary”. This was chosen as the third single in promotion of the album. I think of this tune as a cousin composition to Saint Rose and its ascending double stop motif and the cool bass groove, but in G Major and a slower. Enjoy!
Also, check out the interview by Don Was, the president of the record label Blue Note Records, where they discuss the song and the role of Bill Frisell in it.
Julian Lage wrote the following poignant song presentation on his lovely Instagram channel:
“ I've been excited to share for some time because it features Bill Frisell’s masterful integration into the the band - he creates an expansive orchestrational experience while still retaining a sense of intimacy and wonder. This song began as a study in developing a climbing double stop theme and increasingly became an exploration of a groove/tempo that can feel both laid back, standing still, or driving forward, depending on what it is paired with. This song is in many ways the emotional heartbeat of ‘View With A Room’ and sets the tone for the whole body of music. ”
